Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom launched today in India, price tag Rs.29,990

Samsung has decided to increase the range and variety of its mobile products and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is a step in that direction. This phone is essentially a small Galaxy S4 with an integrated compact camera on the back side. This combination can be particularly very appealing for photography buffs who don’t want to spend too much money on high-end smartphones. The 16 megapixel compact camera on Galaxy S4 Zoom, with its point-and-shoot grade sensor, would certainly be irresistible. The combination of smartphone and cameras has worked quite well in the past and there is no reason that people would not like this concept. With a mid-range smartphone fulfilling the average requirements and a compact camera providing a decent photography experience, this phone would certainly be worth the price.

The technical features of Galaxy S4 Zoom place it in line with the mid-range smartphones in the market. We would have Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on the phone running in conjunction with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. The phone would be powered by 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. The 4.3-inch qHD AMOLED screen of the smartphone is more than enough for a mid-range device and the phone can easily fit in an average-sized hand.

Because of the addition of a compact camera with 24mm lens, the weight of the camera has increased slightly compared to an average smartphones, but it is still manageable. Battery of the phone can be removed via a side door located near the camera grip. This is also the location of the SIM slot. On the bottom, we have various other ports such as microSD card slot, headphone jack and microUSB charger port.

Uses could edit, organize and share the images on social networking websites using various Android apps. A slight downside might be the smaller zoom of the camera which is only 10x and the fact that it has qHD instead of 720p video capture quality. But this does not hinder it from taking decent images and besides, it would also lower the price of the device. A possible competitor of this phone could be Nokia EOS, another hybrid device, which is expected to hit the market of 11th July. It would be unfair to give a definite verdict before both devices are launched and tested by the critics and the common users, so let’s wait for that and keep rooting for more information.
