Galaxy Nexus finally released – now in UK, by the rest of the month in US

Finally the long awaited phone that was developed with the collaboration of Samsung and Google, Galaxy Nexus, has arrived in the UK market and is available for sale. The phone retains the original curved-glass look of the previous models and adds some more impressive specifications. These specifications include super AMOLED 720p screen of size 4.65 inches, dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM memory, a 5 mega pixel camera with the facility of video recording at 1080 p and a 1.3 front end camera. With other usual specifications, the device weighs 135 g.

Previously, two phones in the Nexus line were developed by Samsung and HTC and proved to be quite successful. This device, however, has been advertised as the best Android based phone so far since the most remarkable and talked about feature that it showcases is that it is the first device that runs the latest version of Android named Ice Cream Sandwich. Most smartphones that are available in the market at present run the 2.x version of Android named Gingerbread. Although Honeycomb was released after Gingerbread, it was specifically for the tablet computers. What is remarkable about Ice Cream Sandwich is mainly that would be able to run efficiently on both tablets as well as smartphones. Google has devoted an entire website to showcase the important and remarkable features of this new device which was certainly one of the most highly anticipated gadgets of this year.

Some of the important features of the highly praised Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android include face recognition to unlock the phone, speech recognition for text messaging, Android beam to exchange web addresses YouTube videos, and contact information by NFC. For the time being, there is no official statement form Google as to whether the existing Android phones would get the 4.0 update or not. Samsung however has hinted that Galaxy S II would get the update but the timeframe was not given. Android updates are usually not easy since a lot of stakeholders are involved in the process. Good thing about Android devices, when compared to Apple devices, is that they are available in a wide range of price options and technical specifications. Other noteworthy Android phones that can be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich include HTC Rezound and Motorola Droid Razr. The release date of Galaxy Nexus for other markets is not yet confirmed, but most probably it would be available for sale in the US market by the end of November.
