Google had finally put an end to constant rumors and speculations by announcing its 7 inch version of Google Nexus tablet during Google I/O. This tablet would mark Google’s official entry in the domain of tablets. The 7 inch form factor of the tablet brings it in direct competition with other popular 7 inch tablets, particularly Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble tablet. Although the tablet would not directly rival iPad, it can certainly give it a tough time. Google actually made a very wise decision by preferring a 7 inch tablet, which would mean that it won’t be going into direct competition with Apple. Besides, Microsoft would also soon launch its 10 inch tablet which would further intensify the competition in that domain.
Kindle Fire and Nook tablet are available at a price of $200, and this is exactly what the 8 GB version of Google Nexus tablet would cost. Although Google is not a content company like Amazon, it has a lot of things to offer. A Google tablet binding together mail, messaging, video, social networks and other things would certainly be a huge attraction for many users. Technical specs of the table are quite decent. It would come with quad core Tegra 3 processor, 1 GB of RAM memory and 1.3 mega pixel front end camera. The tablet would have support for WiFi, although 3G or 4G support is missing. Finally, Google Nexus would be available in two versions: 8 GB version would cost $199 while 16 GB version would be available at $249. However, the absence of microSD card slot would be a huge limitation for people who love HD movies.
Google has said that “With the Music Manager, you can easily import your entire iTunes music library into Google Play.” However, tablet doesn’t do DRM, which means that users would be limited to about 200,000 songs. Fans who are anxiously waiting for this tablet won’t have to wait for too long since Google has announced that this tablet would be launched in US, UK and Australia this July, which means that the launch is just around the corner. Technical specs of the device, considering its low price, are pretty decent and make this tablet a perfect competitor of Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet. To actually see its worth, we would have to wait till it is launched and tested on wide scale.
