Samsung Ativ Q a hybrid dual-booting tablet featuring Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean 4.2

Samsung has announced two new tablets from its ATIV lineup. The one called Samsung Ativ 3 would exclusively be Windows 8 based while the other one, Samsung Ativ Q, would be a hybrid tablet combining Android 4.2 and Windows 8. This is quite similar to what we have already seen on ASUS Transformer Book Trio. Great thing about Ativ Q is that both operating systems could be run at the same time, without any need to reboot the device for switching between the operating systems. Other than enjoying all the Android perks, users would also be able to run all the legacy Windows applications on this device.

The technical specs of Ativ Q are no less impressive. To begin with, it has an astonishingly high resolution of 3200 by 1800 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 275 ppi. Samsung has specifically mentioned that the display of the device is perfectly suitable for outdoor use as well. The device is powered by a Haswell-series Intel Core i5 processor running in conjunction with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. Besides, we would also have Intel HD Graphics 4400 on board. The processor has been placed inside the hinge of the tablet to ensure that heat dissipates from the back of the device.

Just like the hardware features, Samsung Ativ Q is rich in its software offerings. The hybrid set-up of two of the most popular operating systems would open up a wide range of applications at the disposal of the users. Sharing of files and folders across operating systems is not a problem for a common user any more. Microsoft Word applications for documents and presentations are also included.

Speaking of the physical structure of the tablet, it has a display size of 13.3-inchs and a thickness of 13.9mm. It weighs 1.29kg which is not all that much considering all the remarkable features that it boasts. Just like Samsung Ativ 3, Ativ Q would also accompany S Pen digital stylus, originally found on Samsung Note devices. Finally, the tablet also has a built-in QWERTY keyboard for user-friendly operation.

When Ative Q was introduced officially Samsung did not specified the exact release date and price of the device. The tablet  was expected to be released just in time for the back-to-school season, during the third quarter. Though the Ativ Q tablet, is now available to pre-order at one retailer in Germany, at the  price of €1599 (approximately US $2083). It is expected that the price of the device would be cheaper in the US  (around the $1599 mark), thing that often happens.
