Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini to launch at Samsung’s event on 20 June, in London

Samsung is all set to launch the “mini” version of its famed Galaxy S4 smartphone. Obviously, the technical specs of the mini version would be significantly toned down compared to the standard version. Bits and pieces of information regarding the possible technical spec of the device have found their way to the Internet.

Samsung did make an official statement about Galaxy S4 mini. In a recent official statement, Samsung confirmed that Galaxy S4 mini would be equipped with a Snapdragon 400 chip. Previously, the bench markers revealed this information although there was no official confirmation from the tech giant itself. Further clarification was also made that the chip used in the 4G LTE model of the device is MSM8930 while the one used in the 3G model is MSM8230. The only difference between these two chips, as is evident, is that they would come with different network support. Both these chips belong to the Snapdragon 400 series and come in pairing with Adreno 305 graphics unit. These chips can render the processing power of up to 1.2 GHz.

The technical specs of the mini version include an 8-megapixel backend camera, compared to the 13-megapixel camera on the standard version. This device would be available in single-SIM and dual-SIM versions. The single-SIM version would weigh 107 grams while the dual-SIM version would have a net weight of 108 grams. Compared to the 441 pixel density of the standard S4, the mini version would showcase 256ppi. Same OLED display technology has been used on both versions of the device and besides the physical structure is quite similar with the exception of size. Both devices also share location of various hardware specs such as camera, flash, sensors and buttons etc..

The operating system for the junior version is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in conjunction with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. Another interesting aspect is that the IR blaster of Galaxy S4 would also make its way to the mini version, along with other features such as Group Play.

The experiment of launching a mini variant of the standard version was quite successful with Samsung Galaxy S3, and Samsung intends to follow the same practice of launching a compact alternative for people who have a limited budget at their disposal. Samsung has so far not announced the price and availability of Galaxy S4 mini but it is expected to hit the market within the next few days.
